Blackfen Road, Blackfen, 1931

New Ideal Homesteads were undeterred by their presence and some new residents had pylons uncomfortably close to their homes. Their promised parade of shops is still flourishing.

This view looks west along Blackfen Road (curving to the right) and along the raw new Sherwood Park Avenue.

The district had been developed by New Deal Homesteads, the largest and most prolific builder active in the area.

The electricity pylon (seen faintly above Sherwood Park Avenue) predated the estate.
