Mill Road, Northumberland Heath, 1954

Mill Road, Northumberland Heath, 1954

The mill was in use until around 1880, and the sails and body were blown down in a gale about 1892. The round house, or base, was then roofed over and still remains.

Mill Road at Northumber-land Heath marks the site of the district's last windmill.

Built in the early 19th century it was a black post mill, whose prominent position made it a useful landmark for shipping on the Thames.
