In April 1959 approval was finally given
for a loan to cover the cost of construction
and the bridge was formally opened by the
Chairman of Crayford Council, Mr H J Morley,
on 14th January 1961. This gave the first
uninterrupted road access to Slade Green since
the railway opened in 1849.

The

followed by PC 537 R Roger Mather, both of
Erith Police Station, on the opening of the
bridge over Bridge Road, Slade Green.
Plans to build the bridge were approved by
Crayford Council in 1955 but construction
was delayed because of a disagreement with
British Rail over the design of the bridge
and footpaths. |
