1.
View of Thamesmead new town from near Lesnes
Abbey looking across Abbey Road.
This is where old and new meet, the remains
of Lesnes Abbey being on one side of Abbey
Road and Thamesmead new town on the other.
2. View of Thamesmead Residents' Social Centre.
This centre was known as the Pyramid Club
and opened in 1971. It set a precedent as
the first licensed Greater London Council
community facility, and flourished as a gathering
place for local people to meet and share a
drink in the absence of any pubs in the immediate
locality. |
