The swimming pool opened in Danson Park in 1936 and rapidly proved to be a pop-ular addition to the Borough's sporting and leisure facilities.

The hardy suburbanites did not seem to mind that the pool was exposed to the elements, making its use subject to the vagaries of the English climate.
