Two
views of Welling High Street in 1951.
1. Looking west towards Welling Corner showing
the Embassy Rooms and Dance Hall on the left,
which was built during the development in
the 1930s.
The Embassy was an extremely popular dance
hall and one which was very well known in
South East London.
It eventually closed down in the 1960s when
this part of Welling was redeveloped to make
way for more retail outlets.
2. Welling High Street looking west towards
Welling Corner from roughly where the Royal
Arsenal Co-operative Society shop was located,
down to Barclays Bank, which is the building
with the distinctive hexagonal roof on the
left in the distance. |
