Beech Tree Hotel, London Road, Bromley, c. 1895

Dating from the 1860s and part of the first phase of development along the London Road, The Beech Tree Hotel was named after a prominent purple beech tree on the site upon which it was built.

The tree was said to have been a particular favourite of Joseph Paxton, builder of the Crystal Palace.

The hotel suffered serious damage in a V1 attack in 1944 and was rebuilt after the war in a contemporary style.
