Shortlands Road, part of the Shortlands estate begun in 1863, was a piecemeal development of houses in a variety of styles.

Nos 45 and 47 date from the 1880s and were the homes of affluent families.

Divided into flats in the forties No 47 recovered from a fire on the first floor and both houses survived.
