The Castle, Kings Wood Road, Beckenham, c. 1982

The Castle, Kings Wood Road, Beckenham, c. 1982

Converted into flats in the 1950s, it was demolished shortly after this picture was taken.

A picture that shows a variety of architecture on the Shortlands estate.

Originally called Ravensbourne, this huge gothic mansion was built about 1878 for George Western, a solicitor who remained in residence for more than 50 years.

Not visible in this view is the small tower on the right complete with battlements from which the later name of 'The Castle' was taken.
