Lauriston House, Bickley Park Road, Bickley, c. 1985

Lauriston House, Bickley Park Road, Bickley, c. 1985

In 1989 it was replaced by a large purpose built private nursing home, retaining the name Lauriston.

Built around 1868 as Sunnyside, this sizable house was part of the first phase of George Wythes' Bickley Park estate and was for many years the home of Lewis Wigram of the shipping and brewing family.

Divided into flats in the 1930s when it gained the name Lauriston, its most famous resident was the Soviet spy George Blake, who had a flat here for a short time prior to his arrest in 1961.
