Many of London's suburbs were built up, in the first instance, along main roads, and Chislehurst is no exception. Perry Street now forms part of the busy A222 and has always been a major thoroughfare.

Graham Martin, the contributor of this image comments: "This is the house where my maternal grandmother was born in 1883. I believe the lady in the picture is my great-aunt, who was born in 1881".
