Summer Hill, Chislehurst, c. 1900

Summer Hill, Chislehurst, c. 1900

From 1865 Summer Hill became a public road and the favoured route from Chislehurst to the new station.

It is shown here on a hot summer's day. There are houses lining the road but Woodclyffe, Black Mount and Heatherbank, all large Victorian mansions, had huge gardens and are totally hidden by trees.

Beyond the railway, the wooded nature of the Bickley Park estate is evident.
