Hayes Street, Hayes, 1933

|
The
Premier Parade shops were the first to be
built on the Hayes Place estate.
Built around 1933, the building under construction
was to become the new post office. The developer
planned a more significant shopping centre
based around East and South Ways, but finding
the estate was not as profitable as had been
hoped, this scheme was abandoned.
(The Daily Mail headline probably
refers to Primo Carnera winning the World
Heavyweight boxing title in New York City
on 29 June 1933.) |
