Built in 1897 by Edward Clarke, St Andrew's became Mottingham's first parish church in 1884, reflecting the increasing significance of the former hamlet during this period.

A burial ground, however, was not permitted.

Built in Court Road, which was undeveloped until the 1930s, it remained Mottingham's sole Anglican church until St Edward's was opened in 1958.
