By
1869 the grand Wricklemarsh Estate had been
developed by the Cator Family as an estate
of Georgian and Victorian houses. It can be
clearly seen here adjacent to Blackheath Village
and Station.
Two ornamental ponds from Wricklemarsh survive;
one in Pond Road (now grassed over), and the
other at Brooklands.
There is still a considerable acreage of land
waiting to be built on. To the east is Kidbrooke.
Encroachments on this attractive rural area
began in the 19th century but intensive suburban
development did not happen until the mid 1930s.
