Eltham High Street, Eltham, Greenwich, 1920

Eltham High Street, Eltham, Greenwich, 1920Watercolour by Gertrude Ashworth,1920

The junction of Eltham High Street and Well Hall Road in 1920.

This delightful watercolour was painted by Gertrude Ashworth, a distinguished artist and local resident.

The girl delivering milk in the foreground is Muriel Ridewood, the daughter of Charles Ridewood, dairyman of 116 Eltham High Street.

This picture was painted just before the road widening and development schemes of the 1920s and 1930s which changed the High Street from a picturesque village street to a modern suburban shopping area.
