Plumstead from Winns Common, 1819

Plumstead from Winns Common, 1819

A view of St. Nicholas Church, Plumstead and the Steward of the Manor's house.

Plumstead at that time was a small village straddling the ancient road from Woolwich to Erith.

Between the high street and the river was a very large area of riverside marshland. The modern community of Thamesmead now covers most of this marshland area.
