Many of the group look old enough to be retired but the presence of younger men is intriguing, as is the couple at centre stage on higher seats than the rest of the front row.

Corin Mills writes: "I'm guessing that this is the Royal Arsenal as my Great Great Grandfather James Mills is pictured front row, extreme right (detail below).

"In 1901 he was 63 and had retired from his job as a metal turner. In this photo he looks old enough for it to have been taken around 1910 or even later. He died in 1918."
