Rochester Way was built in the 1920s through the Progress Estate, dividing it in two.

This section leaving Well Hall roundabout became a well known traffic black spot, as heavy traffic on this main road into Kent caused chaos until the Rochester Way Relief Road was opened in the 1980s.
