View of the Thames from Hill End, Shooters Hill, 1940

Watercolour by S. B. Mattey |
|
The River Thames from Hill End looking down Donaldson Road. The whole of Shooters Hill might have been covered with suburban housing if the London County Council had not acquired large tracts of woodland on the summit.
Oxleas Wood, in 1934, was the last piece of woodland to be taken into public ownership.
