View
of Angell Terrace from the South Gate.
'The terrace stands upon the red Washway,
the footpath that was by the side of the little
River Effra', photograph and caption by Alice
Walker, 1898.
Named after the Angell family who had owned
parcels of land in the area since the late
seventeenth century, Angell Town was laid
out in the 1850s on land that was previously
known as Stiles Farm.
Angell Terrace was the showpiece of the estate,
completed in 1868.
