Lambert Road Development, Brixton, c. 1970

Lambert Road Development, Brixton, c. 1970

There was a realisation that modern terraced houses were just as efficient in land use terms as medium rise develop-ments, were cheaper to build and much more popular with tenants.

A new mixed development of flats and houses at the rear of Lambert Road, nearing completion.

In the background can be seen the tower of St Saviour's church.

The development comprised terraces and courtyards and represented a move away from the earlier complex, and difficult to manage, medium rise layouts of similar social housing projects.
