"View from Mr Akerman's House", Clapham Common, Clapham, c.1790
Engraving by Ravenhill, published by Sewell, c.1790

'View from Mr Akerman's House', showing the 'Sister Houses' that stood on Clapham Common North Side opposite Battersea Rise.

The two houses, mirror images of one another, had extensive grounds. The one on the left, 'Gilmore House', once the home of John Walter, the founder of The Times newspaper, was later a training college for deaconesses.
