As a boy, in the 1920s, I saw films in both The Canterbury and Gatti's and, as far as I remember, the two estab-lishments were on opposite sides of Westminster Bridge Road (not in Upper Marsh). If you look carefully at the programme illustrated, you will see that the address is shown there as Westminster Bridge Road.
At the time, I was living at 114 York Road. My first school was in Addington Street (then a cul-de-sac) and we did our domestic shopping in the Lower Marsh. Although it was a very long time ago, I do remember quite a lot of that area.

London's most famoust music halls.
Established in 1849 by Charles Morton, who
added a new hall in 1851 and another one in
1855, the theatre was rebuilt in 1867 by R.
E. Villiers, and survived as Gatti's Cinema
until it was bombed in World War II. |
