Lambeth Palace, Lambeth North, 1647

Etching by Wenceslas Hollar,
1647 |
|
A
view of Lambeth Palace (seen in the background),
from Whitehall.
Boats arriving at Whitehall Stairs are in
the centre foreground. These were the main
form of transport before more bridges were
built across the Thames to ease the river
crossing.
This is one of the earliest known views of
the Palace, the residence of the Archbishops
of Canterbury. |
