It shows the believed location of the ancient Palace of Kennington including the stables or 'Long Barn' and its ten acre garden.

In 1339 Kennington became part of the Duchy of Cornwall when it was given to the Black Prince by Edward III.

The layout is taken from a map made in the reign of Charles I in 1636, when the old palace was replaced with a royal lodge.

The Long Barn survived until 1875.
