Catford House, Catford Hill,
Catford, Lewisham, c. 1835

Catford House, (called Catford Hill House by the artist) was one of a number of elegant detached houses south of Catford which were built in the early 19th century before Catford's allure as a desirable (mildly exclusive) suburb was overwhelmed by lower status developments, stimulated by the arrival of effective public transport.
