Downham
Methodist Church was one
of the original five places
of worship built to serve
the spiritual needs of the
estate's new residents.
The
Downham Estate was built
by the London County Council
in the 1920s to provide
accommodation for the overcrowded
residents of inner London,
and in particular those of
Bermondsey and Deptford.
Like many
of the other welfare and
social facilities, this church
did not open until after
the completion of the estate.
It is now used as a community
centre. |
