St Margaret's Old and New Churches, Lee, 1841

St Margaret's Old and New Churches, Lee, 1841

The church seen in the distance is the second parish church of Lee which had been built in 1814 to replace the mediaeval church.

However, it was not soundly built, and the population of the parish was increasing.

The present church was erected in 1839 - 1841 on the south side of Lee Terrace.

Most of the 1814 church was demolished but part of the tower remains in the old churchyard on the north side.
