Gaumont Palace Cinema, Lewisham High Street, Lewisham, c. 1930

Gaumont Palace Cinema, Lewisham High Street, Lewisham, c. 1930

The cinema was badly damaged by fire in 1962. It later became the Odeon, and was demolished after years of neglect in 1991 to make way for the refashioning of the main road.

The Gaumont Palace cinema dominated the junction of Loampit Vale with Lewisham High Street from 1932 to 1991.

The cinema was typical of the opulent large cinemas opened at the time, though the Gaumont far outclassed those.
