The Gallic-toned celebration of Queen Victoria's golden jubilee was a neat marketing ploy by Chiesman, whose parade of shops was christened 'Paris House'. Chiesman's developed into the Lewisham's premier store.
It was later dominated by Chiesman's department Store which, in this image, occupied only the shops topped by the flagpoles. The slogan on the store reads: "1837 - 1887 Vive La Reine" |
