Lewisham High Street, Lewisham, c. 1874

Lewisham High Street, Lewisham, c. 1874

This part of the High Street was in the last throes of the transition from residential to commercial as there were still some private houses left just to the left of the Lion and Lamb public house. Note the recently built terrace (right) that Chiesman's were later to dominate.

This view neatly combines the old and the new.

Old cottages and businesses - which include two corn merchants - and new shops.

The church is Lewisham Congregational Church, built in 1867.
