
By 1910 Lewisham High Street was a thriving shopping street, boasting Chiesman's department store (out of view and now demolished), which was rapidly expanding but yet to be rebuilt; two recently built banks (just behind the clock tower); a wide variety of shopsand numerous refreshment houses (note Wright's Oyster Bar).
Transport was provided by cabs and electric trams. |

This view looks north from the north end of Lewisham High Street. The clock tower on the left was built in 1897 to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria. The spire belongs to the now demolished methodist chapel.
