John Rocque 1741 - 1745

Southend was the most remote and rural of Lewisham's villages, but had a number of fine country houses interspersed with the farms.

In the 1740s it was also the site of a major industrial enterprise, the Lower Mill where Ephraim How and his son John made their famous knives and forks.
