Weather-boarded Cottage, Bromley Road, Southend, c. 1865

Weather-boarded Cottage, Bromley Road, Southend, c. 1865

This is one of a group of six cottages, probably of the 17th century, that faced the Lower Mill pond at Southend Village.

The northern three, including this one, may originally have been a single farm house.

Later they were probably occupied by mill workers.

When the photograph was taken this one was still weather-boarded, but the other five had been rendered.

All were demolished c.1870 and the site is now part of the Green Man car park.
