Lower Mill, Bromley Road, Southend, c. 1905

The Lower Mill and its pond in Bromley Road.

The village expanded in the first half of the eighteenth century when the How family made cutlery here and employed many skilled craftsmen.

On the right is Southend Hall (demolished 1936), the home of Southend's major landowners, the Forsters.
