Edmonson & Sons had experience of building very similar streets of middle class houses in North London before moving to Sydenham.

The roads on the 'Thorpe' Estate were built by the firm of Edmondson & Sons between 1901 and 1914 over the garden of the Old House, the home of the Mayow family and once the centre of Sydenham's largest private estate.
