Rowley Buildings, St Thomas' Street, Bermondsey, 1935

The houses date from the late 18th century.

Rowley Buildings were in Vinegar Yard near the junction of St Thomas' Street and Snowfields.

They were hemmed in by large commercial buildings, as the huge warehouse wall seen in the background indicates.

Of obvious note is the clean white washing on the line in such unpromising circumstances, and the row of outside toilets on the left.
