Wolseley Buildings, Bermondsey, 1926

Wolseley Buildings, Bermondsey, 1926

Tenements such as these were a common feature of inner south London in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Typically they had been built by private landlords, some with a philanthropic inclination.

Though unattractive to modern eyes they had better facilities than the buildings they replaced and were able to cope with the high population density of the day.
