After the breakup of the de Crespigny Estate numerous grand detached houses such as this three storey Victorian home of the mid 1850s, which stood on the south side of Champion Park, were built.

The residents, no doubt, welcomed the services of the nearby Denmark Hill Railway Station, which opened in 1866.
