Glebe
House stood in the Glebe, just off Grove Lane
at its extreme southern end opposite Champion
Hill.
The house was built c.1850 for Alexander Kleinworth,
merchant banker. He gave it to his daughter,
Sophia, and her husband, Charles Andreae,
c.1870.
The Kleinworts were the most eminent of numerous
German families in the area.
The house was demolished after World War II
and the Glebe Estate is now on the site.
The second view shows one of the out-houses
near the pasture at the bottom of the garden. |
