Grove Hill Road, Camberwell, c. 1905

Grove Hill Road, Camberwell, c. 1905

These houses were built c.1875 to 1880 as part of the Denmark Park Estate.

The land had previously been owned by the British Land Company, who, rather than deal with the problems of development sold the whole estate undeveloped.

The building of this estate was a key stage in the development of the area south of Peckham Road and between Camberwell Grove and Rye Lane, Peckham, as a lower-middle class suburb.
