This apparently dreary commercial scene betrays a townscape of considerable historic interest.

It shows 102 - 114 Peckham High Street, which are on the south side of the High Street just east of the junction with Rye Lane.

Of particular interest are 102 (Mindels) and 104 (boarded up), dating from the very early 18th century.

The site behind them was occupied by Peckham Theatre (which operated from c.1796 to c.1822), and later, until 1884, as a school.
