Shard Estates, Peckham, 1831

Shard Estates, Peckham, 1831
Layout plan published by Janson, Cobb, Pearson & Co

This plan shows land in Peckham owned by Charles Shard in 1830. His land is shown coloured green.

Shard had added to his land by obtaining some of the plots of the recently enclosed common land.

The plan is useful in showing the scattered extent of the landholding, its total (considerable) size and the name of the freeholder.

Hill Street takes its name from Martha Hill, a member of the Shard family.

Note the north point pointing towards the bottom left of the picture.
