East Wickham Hutments, Welling, 1954

The hutments at East Wickham, part of a large estate of so-called 'temporary housing' built to cater for the huge influx of workers to the Royal Arsenal at the beginning of World War I.

The estate had its own cinema/theatre and some of the 'houses' survived until the 1950s.
