Chatterton Arms, Chatterton Road, Bromley Common, 2000

Opening around 1870 as the "Hit or Miss", perhaps a reference to Shooting Common, the old name for this area. It shortly afterwards became the Chatterton Arms, named after the poet,Thomas Chatterton, as were all the roads on this development.

Chatterton Road soon settled down as a local shopping centre which it remains to this day.

This modern view taken on 1st July 2000, with a prominent advertisement for big screen football, shows the importance satellite TV sport has in maintaining the viability of local pubs.
