Letter Box, The Copse, Mottingham Lane, Mottingham, 1986

letter-box-00957-350

This view showing the front of the house, the gate and nameplate have been tidied up.

A rare Victorian wall mounted post box is built into the gate pillar of this 1890s Arts and Crafts style house. Until then it would have been necessary to walk into the village to post a letter.

The gate may well be the original, even though the name is not.

The original house was extended in 1911 by local architect Ernest Gosling.
