Mottingham House, Mottingham Lane, Mottingham, 1965

mottingham-house-00958-350

One of the most ancient sites in Mottingham and the site of a house "Mottingham Place" as early as 1560, Mottingham House was built in the 18th century when this part of the countryside was fashionable for gentlemen's residences.

Sold in the 1850s to F. A. Schroeter, he completely modernised the building c.1855 adding several outbuildings.

In institutional use from 1886 until the 1920s it was then divided to become three houses as pictured here

It was demolished in 1969 and replaced by a development of flats, Colview Court.
