Reed and Hoad Houses, Petts Wood, 1954

(Walter) Reed and (George) Hoad was one of the most prolific building firms in Petts Wood. Their firm also had close business links with Basil Scruby, who was behind the development of Petts Wood.

This view shows their 'Baronial Hall' type houses. Inside there was a hall panelled in oak and a generous lounge.

Such opulence came at a hefty price: £1195 (almost double the price of houses built in other parts of south-east London at the same time), evidence of Petts Wood's confidently up-market character. Houses of this type were built in Manor Way.
