Originally built in 1851 for the Great Exhibition at Hyde Park, Crystal Palace was reconstructed here in 1852 - 1854. It burned down in 1936.

This postcard from 1911 shows the model buildings erected for the Festival of Empire in the grounds south of the Palace, with the ornamental fountain in the centre.
